If assets appear in the spot wallet but available balance is insufficient, look for orders that remain open. For example, a wallet holding 1,000 USDT may have only 700 available because an open buy order has reserved 300. This guide concerns ordinary spot-order reservations, not every withdrawal hold or account restriction.
Read the asset quantity, not only its valuation
Total, available and funds in orders describe different portions of the same asset balance. A home-screen fiat estimate changes with prices and cannot explain an exact reservation. First confirm the asset and account you are looking at.
Binance’s spot activity guide distinguishes these amounts, while the account data documentation exposes free and locked fields. A locked number alone does not diagnose every possible restriction; product details and account notices still matter.
A buy instruction uses the quote asset
Use a deliberately simplified ledger without fees or other reservation rules. You have 1,000 USDT and place a limit buy for three ABC at 100 USDT each. While all three wait, the budget is 300 USDT: 700 remains available and 300 is reserved. The total has not become 700, and the order has not already bought three ABC.
A second order requiring 800 USDT cannot spend the reserved 300 again. Compare its required asset with that asset’s available amount, not with another coin’s estimated value or the proceeds of a sale that has not executed.
If one ABC fills at 100, the teaching ledger has 700 available USDT, 200 reserved and 900 total USDT. The spent 100 corresponds to execution; the reserved 200 corresponds to a still-active instruction. Actual records may include fees or different execution prices, so the example is not an exact model of every account adjustment.
A sell instruction uses the base asset
For a sale of ABC/USDT, the asset being delivered is ABC. Holding five ABC and reserving four for a sell order leaves one in this simple example. A large USDT balance does not provide missing ABC for that sale.
Check other pairs sharing the same asset. Buy orders for ABC/USDT and XYZ/USDT can compete for USDT even though the desired assets differ. A current-pair-only filter can conceal this. Conditional orders and special features may reserve funds differently, so do not transfer the ordinary limit example to every product.
Confirm cancellation before expecting release
A cancellation click is a request, not the final balance update. Execution can occur while the request is processed. Check final order status and cumulative quantity, then refresh the available balance.
In our example, 100 has already been spent and 200 remains reserved. Cancelling the remainder releases 200, not the original 300. The purchased ABC remains an asset. Selling it to restore USDT would create another trade, not complete the cancellation.
Why cancelling one order can leave funds reserved
A small multi-order worksheet can make the shared-asset problem visible. Start with the amount of one required asset, not with the value of the entire portfolio. For each relevant open instruction, record its pair, side, remaining quantity and the reservation shown or otherwise established by the account. Keep the observed available balance next to that list. The worksheet is a checking aid, not permission to infer undocumented reservation rules.
For another simplified example, begin with 1,000 USDT. Order A reserves 300 for ABC and order B reserves 400 for XYZ, leaving 300 available. Cancelling A, once confirmed and assuming no fills or other changes, would make 600 available; B still accounts for 400. Looking only at the ABC screen after cancellation could otherwise make the remaining reservation seem unexplained.
Now change one fact: before A’s cancellation completes, 100 USDT of its budget is spent in a fill. Only the unspent 200 from A becomes available. With B unchanged, available balance becomes 500 and total USDT becomes 900. The difference is execution, not a cancellation penalty invented by this example. Actual fees or other account activity would require their own entries rather than being silently folded into the reservation.
Use a consistent observation time. A balance copied before execution and an order remainder copied afterwards do not describe the same state. Record when each was read, refresh official data and compare a coherent set. If you cannot obtain one, say so in the support request. An apparent mismatch can be a timing issue, but timing should not become an excuse to dismiss an unexplained discrepancy indefinitely.
Do not confuse a spending limit with available funds. The interface might also enforce quantity steps, minimum value or other trading conditions. Having enough available USDT does not establish that every possible order quantity is valid. Conversely, a parameter error does not automatically show that money is reserved. Read the message and separate funding checks from instruction-format checks.
If several people or tools can operate the account, activity you did not just enter may still change its balances. Review authorized activity through official account controls. Do not attempt to solve the uncertainty by granting another tool more permissions. For this task, the evidence remains ordinary account and order records; an external connection is not needed to compare available and reserved amounts.
Before contacting support, compare the remaining reservation with the orders you found. In the example, B still reserves 400 USDT after A ends. If the account instead shows 450 reserved, the additional 50 is the amount to investigate. Include the asset, both order IDs, their remaining quantities and the time of the balance check. Keep any separate account restriction notice with those details.
Confirm spot mode, identify base and quote assets, inspect the required asset’s available balance, then review related open orders. After any cancellation you choose to request, verify its result before recalculating. If no order explains the restriction, follow the account’s actual notice and official support route rather than calling every hold a reservation.
Keep order IDs and times privately. Nobody needs your password or authenticator secret to compare reserved amounts. The next useful checks are cancellation and replacement and linking an instruction with execution.
